About North Carolina FFN Advocacy Coalition
The North Carolina FFN Advocacy Coalition is a collaborative of early childhood organizations, FFN care providers, parents, grandparents, education advocates, and community-based care networks.
Our mission is to establish FFN care as a recognized and legitimate form of child care in North Carolina that is funded and supported on the same level as all other care settings.
FFN care is a crucial form of child care in our state.
It is especially prevalent in rural regions, where many parents may have access to few, if any, licensed child care centers and rely on relatives or family friends to care for their children while they work or attend school. North Carolina is currently in a child care crisis, with the number of children in need of care far exceeding the number of child care slots available. There is simply not enough capacity within the limited number of centers that currently exist to serve all working class families who are in need of child care.
Aware of the essential role FFN care serves in building child care capacity in our state, Smart Start of Transylvania County launched the NC FFN Advocacy Coalition to create a united front of early childhood professionals working together to advance organizational and policy advocacy for FFN care.
